Rise and Shine
The Fondazione Ferragamo has been collaborating form 2020 with ITS contest, a contest that each year involves young talents form the world of fashion and accessory design. An international jury made of leading figures from fashion and design, as well as international press representatives, selects the ten winners. Each one of them receives financial support, the opportunity to exhibit their creations at the Rinse and Shine Exhibition, at ITS Academy, and the chance of participating in a creative residency offered by ITS. In addition, among them, are selected those who receive awards from ITS partners, including the special Fondazione Ferragamo Award.
I:C Fondazione Ferragamo Award
Fondazione Ferragamo offers a stay in Florence, an immersive experience in the world of Ferragamo and the places that inspired the work of its founder, Salvatore Ferragamo, to a designer of its choice, selected on the basis of the knowledge of materials and innovation.
The award was presented to Jamie O’Grady, British designer, for his ability to combine a functional and technological approach with aesthetics. The project «SubTraction» embodies the fundamental principles of ethical design: starting from a reflection on overproduction and the importance of the product, the designer creates a collection of genderless sneakers that forcefully brings concepts such as functionality, durability, and sustainability back to the forefront, highlighting on the one hand the contradictions of our time and on the other proposing an innovative solution.
The importance of design and planning, creative sensitivity, the modularity of the fashion object, reflection on materials, as well as attention to personal well-being are also elements that bring his work closer to the legacy of Salvatore Ferragamo.
